I received a call recently with a customer having problems
with their iPod. No matter what song he chose, it would only play part way
through.
I decided to do some research on this issue and it turns out
a lot of people have mentioned this. There have been several “fixes” posted,
some more involved than others. One of the more in-depth solutions was to
convert all of the songs to AAC files. Depending on the size of your library,
that could take an extremely long time.
Unfortunately, after he spent several hours on the phone
with Apple support, my research leading nowhere and another call to Apple
support, a solution was finally discovered. It is such an easy fix that I can’t
believe it hadn’t already been checked.Solution:
It turns out that his headphones were not quite inserted all the way. This allowed the iPod to go to sleep during
playback ending the song prematurely.
I assume this won’t fix everyone’s problems and complaints
with the new iTunes Match system, but it is definitely something to check
before pulling out your hair. When plugging in your headphones, make sure they
are inserted all the way (until you hear a slight click).
Sometimes, the fixes to problems are so simple they are
easily overlooked.
