Microsoft Issues Emergency Patch for Windows 7 – 10, including Server OS

Picture of Coding

A vulnerability has been found in JScript.dll which runs mostly in Internet Explorer and can completely compromise your system and give administrative control to the attacker. It effects basically every current version of Windows in use today, from Windows 7 up to and including Windows Server 2019. It can also be exploited through HTML documents opened in Microsoft Office, so even if you don’t use Internet Explorer you can be hacked with this flaw.

Microsoft has released an emergency fix for this:

  1. Go to Windows Update
  2. Click “Check for Updates”
  3. Install available Updates – Specifically in the 2018-12 Cumulative Update for Windows (or) 2018-12 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer.
  4. Restart your computer (this is always a good idea even if the system doesn’t prompt for it)
